The Vaccine: A New Hope

The end may be near as more new information continues to come out about the COVID-19 vaccine.

New year, new vaccine? The question of safety still remains as many people as the COVID-19 vaccine continues to make progressions.

There have been daily updates in regards to the controversial vaccine, leaving the public to have conflicting thoughts about it. According to ScienceMag.org, there have been more than one successful trial runs with high efficiency rates of about 90%. While these reports have some people feeling hopeful, others like Rain Petrillo are not letting themselves get too excited.

“I don’t think that it’s immediately going to solve the problem, so I’m not overly excited about it,” she said.

Those who share some of Petrillo’s reservations have brought up many questions in regards to the vaccine. Concerns over how the vaccine will be distributed have risen. The CDC has addressed these concerns and claim that they are working to make sure the vaccine will be easily accessible for the public. For some, like Cameron Santiago, these positive reports are enough.

“I’ve read that it’s safe and it has a very high success, so I’d be comfortable taking it,” she said.

Another common concern people have is when the vaccine will start to be distributed. It appears that the answer to that is a little more complex. According to The New England Journal of Medicine, people should not expect the vaccine until the proper procedures have been taken and supported. Petrillo seems to share this consensus.

“I think they need to get it to 100%, so that’s gonna take time,” she said.

While there have been many updates in terms of the vaccine, there is still plenty of work ahead. According to the World Health Organization, there have been more than 50 trials for the vaccine.

As people wait for answers, the vaccine remains a hot topic of public speculation.
